The Golden State of California became a state in the union in 1850. Thanks to the 1800's Gold Rush, the nation saw the greatest migration of settlers head westward to seek their own fortune. Today the same idea holds true, even if only for a sunny or snowy vacation spot. With its ocean shoreline, mountain vistas, deserts, valleys, big cities and sleepy towns, RV campers literally have their pick of the state when it comes to camping spots with full hookups in California.

San Juan Bautista

Located in the San Juan valley you'll find the Betabel RV Resort. This central coast campsite has 172 full-hookup sites with both pull-through and back-in parking. They also provide TV and a wireless Internet hot spot, and have a seasonal heated pool. There are golf courses nearby in Gilroy and Hollister, and the famed Pebble Beach is only a half hour away. The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is only 35 minutes from the park.

In the San Diego area there is the Escondido RV Resort, which provides 125 paved sites with full hookups. This resort also has Internet access, a heated pool and spa, and a picnic and barbecue area. There is a laundry facility and concierge services available. This campsite is close to the Reidy Creek Golf Course, as well as the enormous Dixon Dam end Lake City Park for the camper to hike or bike.

Along the central coast north of Santa Barbara in the scenic town of Solvang is the Flying Flags RV Resort and Campground. Here you will find grassy, pull-through sites with full hookups. There is a heated swimming pool as well as indoor and outdoor spas and a fitness center. Some activities near this resort include hiking, boating, golfing, dancing, mountain biking and fly fishing. A camp store and laundry facilities are available, and this site is near the ocean as well as horse facilities.

Northern California

In the town of Etna in Scott Valley is the Mountain Village RV Park. There are 44 paved pull-through sites with full hookups for guests. Free Wi-Fi is offered, and there is a dump station, payphone and laundry facilities. While you stay here you can enjoy such activities as panning for gold, fishing for trout or hiking the Russian wilderness. You can also hike through the Marble Mountains, or for an extra adrenaline rush, try your hand at whitewater rafting.

San Francisco

Prepare to leave your heart in that city by the bay when you stay at the Novato RV Park. Its ease of access to San Francisco opens up a world of activities for campers who want to have some city fun on their country camping excursion. This park has full hookups along with free basic cable TV and Wi-Fi. There is a seasonal pool and a picnic area complete with barbecue facilities. In San Francisco you can walk across the Golden Gate Bridge, or escape up to Marin County for the day. You can also check out wine country.
