Making your own homemade air bed will allow you to have a bed that you can always use when guests come to visit. Simple materials and a little skill is all that is needed to make your own air bed. Creating your own air bed for sleeping on can be even healthy as well as frugal. According to the US National Institutes of Health, sleeping on an air mattress may even help to prevent heel pressure ulcers for the elderly.
Items you will need
2 double sheets
2 - 1 person swim air mattresses
Sew the double sheets together on 3 of the sides using the needle and thread. This will create a sheet envelope to hold the air mattresses.
Slide one of the air mattresses into the sheet envelope with the air valve toward the open end of the sheet envelope.
Inflate the air mattress using the air pump.
Insert a pillow on top of the air mattress into the sheet envelope moving it to the end that is closed.
Slide the second swim air mattress into the sheet envelope with the air valve at the open end of the sheet envelope.
Inflate the air mattress using the air pump until it fully forms around the previously inserted mattress.
Insert the second pillow on top of the second air mattress and move the pillow to the closed end of the sheet envelope. The air bed is now ready for use.
