How to Decorate a Nalgene

Explore America's Campgrounds

In addition to their durability, convenience and environmental benefits, Nalgene water bottles now have another feature-a clean, colorful surface that you can decorate. Personalize one to label your drink, showcase your creativity and make drinking water a lot more fun.

Items you will need

  • Nalgene water bottle

  • Bumper sticker or decal

  • Acrylic or glass paint

  • Paint or permanent markers

  • Stickers

  • Rhinestones

  • Glue or double-stick tape

  • Microbeads

  • Packing tape

  • Ribbon

  • Charms

Purchase a Nalgene water bottle in any size or color. Wash and dry it completely.

Cover the sides with a bumper sticker or school decal.

Create a design or artistic graffiti with acrylic or glass paint (depending on your preference for an opaque or translucent finish). Use the medium to add a motif around the black cap as well.

Write messages, song lyrics or inspirational quotes around the bottle with paint pens or permanent markers. Doodle with them and invite friends and family to add their drawings to the mix.

Add instant interest with a cluster of letter, number or shape stickers. Find epoxy, fabric, cardstock or rubber stickers at scrapbook stores for additional dimension.

Give your Nalgene pizazz with a few self-adhesive rhinestones or beads. Cover a line or design with a thin layer of liquid adhesive or double-stick tape, then press the area into clear microbeads for instant glamor.

Use clear packing tape to seal and affix items to the bottle like a cool patch, photo, postcard or lucky penny.

Tie a length of ribbon around the neck of the bottle or use it to tie charms or cell phone baubles from the hinged cap if your version has one.

Warnings

  • Don't put your decorated Nalgene bottle into the dishwasher. Wash the inside by hand carefully to preserve your creative effort.
