Molasses is used to make salt licks and deer feed and deer attractors. Deer attractors are a type of bait that hunters make at home. Molasses can be mixed with cracked corn and acorns, or it can be mixed with peanut butter and used as deer feed. You can mix molasses with peanut butter and leave it in a can where it can melt in the sun and slowly drip out to attract deer while you hunt.
Items you will need
3-pound metal coffee can with lid
Baking soda
Camouflage tape
Drill
1/16-inch drill bit
Wire hanger
Granulated molasses, 18 ounces
Peanut butter, 28 ounces
Step 1
Empty out the coffee can. Sprinkle a thin layer of baking soda into the can and wash it out with warm water. Rinse and dry the can.
Step 2
Cover the exterior of the can with dark colored camouflage tape. Drill a hole with a 1/16-inch drill bit into the center of the bottom of the coffee can.
Step 3
Straighten out the wire hanger. Bend a lower case "e" shape that is slightly smaller than the diameter of the coffee can at one end of the hanger wire. At the end of the "e" shape, bend the remaining wire up at a 90 degree angle. Insert the straight end of the hanger into the can from the bottom so that the bottom of the can can rest on the loop and hang straight on it. Bend the top of the wire into a hook so that you can hang the can on a tree limb.
Step 4
Drill six 1/16-inch evenly spaced holes into the lid of the coffee can.
Step 5
Mix 18 ounces of granulated molasses with a 28 ounce jar of peanut butter. Insert the mixture into the can and hang it from a tree. When the sun heats up the metal coffee can, the peanut butter and molasses will melt and start to drip from the holes to attract the deer.
