Starcraft introduced the folding camping trailer in 1964 and the Starcraft 1701 model in 2006. The 1701 tent trailer provides accommodations for up to six people and features two sleeping areas, a small kitchen and storage cabinets. Its light weight allows you to pull it behind a sports utility vehicle or full-size truck.
Construction
The shell of this model consists of 3-inch steel tubes and channel framing, aluminum sidewalls, a steel bumper and a fiberglass roof. Roof vents provide air circulation throughout the camper, while keeping any inclement weather outside. A leaf-spring axle and 12-inch tires are standard equipment for this model.
Exterior
The exterior features a 7-foot retractable awning and an entry step. The entrance door has a screen to keep insects out and features removable panels.
Interior
The kitchen area has a 2-burner cooktop, stainless steel sink, and a 35 lb. cooler for food storage. Storage cabinets feature slab-style doors and drawer glides. A built-in dining table and two seats with 4-inch reversible cushions complete the kitchen and dining area. Sleeping quarters consist of two mattresses that measure 4 inches thick. Each is located at opposite ends of the camper.
Electrical
The Starcraft 1701 has a power center that consists of a 25-amp battery charger, 12-volt connector and GFI protected circuits. Lighting is provided with 12-volt ceiling light fixtures and a patio light. An exterior 110-volt receptacle and 30-amp power cord allows you to use electrical devices outside the camper. This model also comes wired for an air conditioning unit.
Safety Features
Safety equipment that comes with the Starcraft 1701 include a carbon monoxide detector and a fire extinguisher. The 20 lb. LP tank has a regulator, but Starcraft also provides an LP leak detector to ensure the safety of the campers.
Water
Hot water is provided through the 10-gallon fresh water tank, 6-gallon water heater and the on-demand water pump system.
Weight and Size
The Starcraft 1701 camping trailer has a gross vehicle weight rating of 2,090 lbs. The trailer weighs 1,435 lbs. leaving 655 lbs. for camping supplies, fuel and passengers.
