Installing a stock on a Mossberg Maverick 88 is a relatively simple process. As a result, there are several brands of shotgun stocks that fit the Maverick 88. In addition to a variety of hunting stocks, break-down stocks and military stocks are also available with the specifications required for installation on the Mossberg Maverick. Installing a stock on the Mossberg Maverick 88 takes less than five minutes and only two tools.

Items you will need

  • Mossberg Maverick 88 appropriate stock

  • 1/2 inch socket with extension

  • 1/2 inch by 3 inch bolt

  • Phillips-head screwdriver

Slide the safety button at the front of the trigger guard to the "on" position to the right of the shotgun's trigger-guard. Depress the action-lock lever found behind of the trigger guard on the left. Pull the pump toward the butt of the shotgun. Look in the side-ejection port. Make certain there is not a shell in the chamber. Turn the shotgun over so the trigger-guard is facing up. Press down on the elevator and make certain there are no shells in the magazine-tube.

Place the 1/2 inch by 3 inch bolt in the socket. Slide the bolt, socket and extension into the butt end of the stock until it comes out the nose of the stock.

Locate the 1/2 inch bolt hole in the back of the action. Screw the bolt coming out the nose of the stock into the hole for several turns. Slide the stock down the bolt and snug it up against the back end of the action.

Screw the bolt the rest of the way through the stock into the action with the socket.

Place the butt-plate against the back of the stock. Make the butt-plate flush side to side and plum up and down with the stock. Screw the butt-plate into the back of the stock with the phillips head screwdriver.
