Snowbirds fleeing colder climates can find outdoor recreation and activities throughout the winter months in sunny Florida. Campgrounds and RV parks are located throughout the state. Some parks offer discounted pricing for stays lasting several months during the months of October through April ¬ ask if the park offers any “Snowbird Specials.”

Northern Region

Play pool or join in with the water aerobics group at Camping on the Gulf Travel Park in Destin. Winter activities include billiards group, craft circle, water aerobics, scheduled walks and outings. Grab your fishing pole and bathing suit before heading over to Little Talbot Island State Park, in Jacksonville. The park has a full-service campground with 40 campsites ¬ for tents or RVs up to 30 feet in length ¬ that include electricity, water, picnic table and a fire ring. Kayak or canoe down Myrtle Creek, hike the park’s three-mile trail or fish in the tidal streams for flounder, striped bass or bluefish.

Central Region

Swim laps in the Olympic-sized swimming pool at Ocala RV Camp Resort, located in Ocala. Join in campground activities such horseshoes or take your children to the large playground. Keep your pet fit with walks to the park’s dog run. Take a leisurely bike ride or relax in the heated spa at Kissimmee/Orlando KOA campground. Located close to Disney attractions, the campground features a variety of camping sites including tent sites, RV sites and cabins available for rent.

Southwestern Region

Southwestern Florida is renowned for its expansive sugar-white beaches, weather and recreational activities such as fishing, swimming, biking and hiking. Join the Bonita Lakes bike club or join in to a game of shuffleboard at Bonita Lake RV Resort, located in Bonita Springs. The community holds water aerobics three times weekly and offers amenities that include a heated pool, modern restrooms with showers, community room and laundry facilities.

Southeastern Region

Bring your “Big Rig” to North Coast RV Park in Forth Lauderdale. The park features boat docking and paved streets that are ideal for power walking. The campground is close to area attractions such as beaches, golf courses and area shopping. At Miami Everglades Campground, you can camp among groves of mango and avocado trees. Join in activities such bean bag baseball, jogging, shuffleboard and volleyball. Park amenities include heated pool, spa, bikes, paved paths for walking or jogging and a playground.

Florida Keys Region

Pull your boat up right up to your boat slip at Geiger Key Marina RV Park in Key West. The park is approximately 10 miles from town and offers a variety of amenities, including a full-service restaurant, Tiki bar, laundry facilities and a fuel station. Pitch your tent at Key Largo Kampground, which welcomes tent campers and RV campers. The park offers lush tropical landscaping and close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. Amenities include marina access, two swimming pools and group activities such as kayaking, boating and water aerobics.
