How to Tie Knots in Poly Rope

Explore America's Campgrounds

Poly rope is more buoyant than other ropes made from materials such as nylon and natural fibers. A suitable alternative for many uses, poly rope is often used in activities that take place on or near water. Poly rope, in addition to being buoyant, resists moisture and rot. Various knots are tied with poly rope and one in particular is used to temporarily tie up watercraft.

Items you will need

  • Poly rope

  • Post

Hold the free end of a length of poly rope attached to a watercraft to begin forming a clove hitch.

Form a loop large enough to slip over the post by crossing the long length of rope over the short length of rope.

Form another loop toward the short end of the rope length by once again crossing right over left

Slide both loops over the post and pull tight.
